Hey All!

Its been another very busy and cold week in the south or Argentina and Chile! Last saturday we went to the perito moreno glacier in el calafate which was stunning. We took a boat ride right up to the glacier where ice continually fell off creating a thunderous splash and cracking noise. The ice was a really pure looking bright blue and due to the ice melting and runing into the lake the water was also a very surreal turqoise.

Following el calafate we got a bus to Puerto Natales, which is one of the most southern points in Chile. We stayed here for one night and went to the torres del paine national park on Monday, in the picture. We spent a day on a bus which took us around all the main lakes and mountains as well as a good view of the grey glacier. It was a fairly boring trip but it was free so we couldn't complain!

On monday night we boarded a ferry that took us from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt where we got in around an hour ago. The scenary was spectacular - three days and 4 nights making our way through the fjords and channels among the islands off the southern coast of Chile. We were constantly surrounded by rolling snow capped mountains and a completely untouched landscape. We were also fortunate enought to see dolphins and sea lions but didn't see any whales despite being outside for two days on deck!

On the first day of the boat trip we went to see the skua glacier and despite having already seen two glaciers this one had its own charm due to the water on the approach being full of icebergs and scattered ice all over the water. It was pretty surreal travelling up to an ice wall and seeing the boat constantly hitting tiny ice blocks in the water - there was also a group of dolphins cicling the front of the boat as we watched!

We were very fortunate with the weather and our room on board as we got a free upgrade from the cheap bunk areas which turned out to be in the hallways on board to a good four bed room with a window! We were also rather lucky to end up with a cool dutch couple called Mika and Bastien who were just a little bit older.

Our days on board were mainly spent trying to spot wildlife and taking in the scenary. There was only one 12hour part of the journey when the weather was rough as we went out into the pacific ocean and left the shelter of the channels. However, we took some sea sickness pills at the start and were completely fine!

Had a bit of trouble since we got off the boat as im walking along like a drunkard - my sea legs haven't worn off yet!

This afternoon we're going for a seafood meal nearby where you can eat fresh lobster, crab, mussels, salmon etc for about 5pounds - tough times being on a budget! lol! Then later today we're getting on abus that gets us to Bariloche for around 9.30pm where we will spend a few days relaxing, cycling and white water rafting!
