After the hustle and bustle of Panama City it was nice to get back to a chilled town for a few days! 5 days bumming around Bocas del Tora was exactly what we needed although it was nearly aborted in the first few days!
We arrived tired after a night bus and spent the first few hours trying to find accommodation, all of which was about $30 for a room not much more than a shed! Then embarked on a 7km+ walk to a local beach, all of which combined with overcast weather dampened our mood!
Although after persevering we found a really nice hostel and some good beaches so we ended up hanging round for a good few days! The islands vary in size but all have beautiful clear waters and long stretching Palm tree lined beaches.
A few of the days we spent pottering around more local areas and one day out on a boat trip to the islands designated as national parks.
Visited a few random spots on the boat trip, a stretch of island where loads of orange star fish were lining the sea bed and 'sloth island' with sloths dangling from the tree tops!
The town was a little strange in that it didn't really know who it was catering for. It was jumping on the band wagon of the booming tourist industry but was overpriced for backpackers yet lacked some of the luxuries that holiday makers wanted! Either way we definitely caught it before it went down the route of Costa Rica and their huge holiday resorts.
Only planning on spending a few weeks in Panama and Costa Rica combined, mainly because of the western prices everywhere, we were moving on fast.
Few wines to close of the last night in Bocas and onward bound! Boat... Minibus and coach to the 3rd most active volcano in the world!
