Our final weekend in mainland Latin America was spent in Mexico's Cancun! Thought we'd go out with a bang and have a party to celebrate the last 8 months of travelling South and Central America!
Arriving on Friday, we checked into a 'party hostel' that organises trips to the main clubs and gets a decent crowd together. A bit undecided at first we ended up heading to the most famous club in Central America... Coco Bongo!
It was a bit more pricey but everyone said it was amazing. The club has normal music (and a completely free bar) but also theatrical West End type shows that go on all through the night. The shows were everything from Pirates of the Caribbean themed, to Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury and loads of others. All mixing up crazy stunts with the main act and dancers. The pyrotechnics were great as well, the club certainly didn't skimp out on their shows!
The following day we moved to a quieter hostel (well not sure you could call it a hostel but it was a room and very cheap at that!), mooched around some local markets and stores and grabbed some last bits of Mexican food, really cheap and really good!! In the local areas outside of tourist districts a large burrito with all the sides was just over £1!
There was a local event taking place like a fair at home, stalls, games, a big stage with local acts on and loads of food stalls. Was nice to see some local social events before heading out of Mexico!
Although brief, Mexico was fun and definitely gave us the appetite to come back again in the future and travel all the bits we skipped this time around!
I think we preferred South America over all but had a great time in main land Central America. As with South America we met some great friends we'll definitely stay in touch with as well. Also the volcanos and Caribbean islands were definitely highlights and some things I'll remember forever from this leg of the trip!
Off to Cuba now! Expecting good things and something different to what we've seen anywhere before!
