We arrived at Uyuni from the Potosi mining town set for a 4x4 jeep tour to the salt flats and deserts of southern Bolivia. We had a decent group with us, all meeting in Sucre plus an ex-German airforce officer we met in Potosi; later he would become known as the Terminator...!

First day we stocked up on the wine for the night in the desert and set off! 'Train graveyard' first, where all the old steam trains from the Potosi mines were left to rust... For lunch we stopped in a restaurant made of salt, one of the stops for the 2014 Dakar rally; a warm beer and the chicken falling on the salty floor before being served to us was always good!

The rest of the day we did 2 trips to the salt flats, absolutely amazing! Giant salt hexagons in the floor as far as the eye could see, standard photos taken with small props where it looks like they are bigger than the person in the picture and a great sunset was seen. During the sunset the vino was popped and even though the temperature was plummeting we started the evenings festivities on the salt flats!

That afternoon before the sunset we also stopped off at a random rocky outcrop in the middle of the desert where a 'forest' of cactus had grown! Some pushing 12 feet in height!

The evening was a great laugh, we stayed in a hostel made of salt, played card games until the early hours and drunk a fair bit of wine... The locals joined us later in the night for a party as well!

Apart from everyone (especially me and Gemma) nursing sore heads, the next day was a full itinerary!

We visited another derelict railway track, some crazy rock outcrops, the 'small lakes', the 'mirrored lake' and the 'red lake'. The lakes were full of flamingos and each lake a completely different colour.

Another hostel stay that night in the desert, temperatures plummeted to freezing so big covers and blankets were on hand. The festivities were significantly more tamed than the first night! Especially as we had a 5am start.

Apart from the guides having a late night drink so not getting up on time, we set off early to the natural geysers, molten liquid spewing and hot gasses flowing into the air, a crazy sight! We also went to some natural hot springs, although as it was still near freezing outside only a few ventured into the hot spring water. The final stops before heading into Chile were the 'green' and 'white' lakes.

Another impressive end to a great few days in Bolivia. Headed into Chile next to do some star gazing and mountain spotting... Oh and a few of an evening beers...
