Alison: Angkor Wat is the main attraction in Cambodia and it is basically a complex of very old temples found just outside Siam Reap. The largest and best preserved temple is the one that is actually the Angkor Wat and it is this temple which features on the Cambodian flag. There are many more temples dotted around the grounds of various sizes and most people don't see all of them unless you are a real enthusiast (Nigel loves a good temple spree but I had to be firm). Several of these temples were made very famous in 1996 by the release of the film Tomb Raider which was filmed here so these are the places people normally head to.
Since the complex is a few kilometers out of town, most people rent a tuk tuk for the day. We paid $14 which appeared to be the going rate for a full day. The driver first takes you to get your ticket which can either be a 1, 3, or 5 day pass. We just opted for 1 day which was the right amount of time for us. When you have your ticket, the driver does a loop around the site and drops you off at each temple you have agreed he will take you to. I won't talk too much about them because the pictures will hopefully do them justice. Keep your eyes peeled for the temple featured in tomb raider in which giant trees and their roots have grown all over the walls and some of them are actually sat on top of the walls now. Very impressive site. At the end of our day we went to watch the sunset on the tallest hill in the complex. Many people gather their and it is a little overcrowded. You are supposed to see some of surrounding temples but we couldn't see anything. The sunset was still very beautiful though.
