So… I wrote out a long, detailed blog about our time in Copenhagen, thought I uploaded it and somehow deleted the whole thing. I do not think I have the patience to re-write everything, so this could be a little short but I want to document everything!
We arrived in Copenhagen and found our hotel with no issues. We stayed about a 10 minute walk from the train station, so it was very convenient. We set our bags down and went out exploring. We decided to by a 24 hour Copenhagen Card, which gave us access to a ton of museums and attractions and free use of the public transport. This ended up being a pretty good deal as we got to use it Saturday evening then all day Sunday as we explored. Saturday night we walked through Tivoli Park, which is a pretty neat amusement park in the middle of the city. They have a stage in the middle of the park and there always seems to be some band playing. From there we wandered to the city center trying to find dinner. In typical Wes and Ashley fashion we could not decide on where to eat and wandered for a good hour or so. We eventually settled on a place and had some good fish and meat dishes. We ended the evening back at Tivoli Park watching some music and drinking the local beer. Ashley found $800 Danish Kroner (~$120) on the floor which was pretty cool!
Sunday was a long day of exploring. 2 nights is really not enough in a city as it really only allows one full day so we have to get the most out of it. This always leads to a lot of walking. We ended up with over 25,000 steps and on about 12 miles walked! We started off at a neat, hip cafe for breakfast on the west side of town. Then we used our Copenhagen Card to check out the Rosenburg and Christianburg Palaces. This was really neat as the Rosenburg is an old palace that is more of a museum now. The Christianburg Palace, while still old, is where the current king and all heads of state currently run the country out of. It was neat to compare the old and new palaces so close together. From there we worked our way all the way back across town to the Carlsberg Brewery. I have been on a lot of brewery tours and they can be very hit or miss but we got in free with our card and it came with free beer so we figured why not. It ended up being very cool. We decided to do a tasting which only 6 other people signed up for. Our guide ended up just hanging out with us and letting us basically drink as much as we wanted of the beer. Between that and the 2 free beers that came with entrance, we were feeling pretty good and worked our way back towards our hotel. We finished the evening with a traditional Danish dinner of some fresh fish and a meat stew.
We are now on a train to Hamburg. So long Scandinavia, it has been fun!
