San Francisco and ventura Harbor
With the beauty of the national parks still in our mind we drove to San Francisco. Through the wineries and on the El Camino Real. We had some trouble finding accommodation since there was a convention going on on the dates we were there. After walking and driving around the whole evening we finally found place in the Holland motel run by an Indian guy. That morning we walked around San Francisco. The golden gate Bridge, fisherman's wharf, pier 39, Chinatown and down town. It felt a lot like we where back in Sydney. A lot of tiny restaurants, bars and pubs. There was this big arcade with old fashioned games and pinball machines from back in the 20ies. The people had a smile on their face and even the weather felt like we were back in Australia. The climate around the shore of the west coast varies immense. In San Francisco it was 18 degrees but over to the golden gate Bridge to San Rafael just a 20 minutes drive away it was 34 degrees again. Ofcourse we have seen the famous cable cars. We didn't go in them but walked beside them as they were moving so slowly. And just as that our day in San Francisco was over. It had a beautiful relaxed vibe, we were expecting to see hippies and hipsters but didn't see that much.
From there on we went to ventura Harbor. It is said that this used to be lost angeles before it became famous. We just stayed there because it was for free. We got a night at the four points from our colleague Daniel. And miraculously we had some points left in our account to stay an additional 2 nights. We relaxed for 3 days and played tennis on the resort. They had a big hot tub and a pool so not that much sightseeing but good olé relaxing.
That concluded our roundtrip in the west of the USA. We've seen marvelous things and have been driving through deserts and forests . California is so diverse and the surrounding states had highlights as well. We will definitely be back one day to take our time to explore your even more! West coast USA! One Love from Holland!
