Sorry I have been rubbish with this recently but I have been having far too much fun, ah well here we go:
29/10/2011:
Again I awoke feeling a little delicate due to the "bug". However I managed to force some breakfast down me and head down to the beach for a walk and a sunbath. I bought a sarong (which has come in handy before all the jokes and rumors start) and spent the rest of the day chilling out at the hostel, lounging round the pool and chatting to the staff and owner. We went out for some dinner before having a party at the hostel, we tried to be quiet but it just didn't work. We were warned several times but took little notice. In the morning the owner wasn't happy especially as I had jumped into the pool from the first floor balcony and broke the guttering - oops! He said he watched the nights antics on the CCTV, we apologised big time!
30/10/2011:
As I said the owner was mad! He said he would be charging me for new pipe work and clean water for the pool, luckily he didn't. We had gotten to know the owners so well that it was like being told off by your parents! After a day spent hanging we went out for a pig roast dinner at a local warong (small restaurant). We saw the owners there so secretly paid for their meal which cost a few pounds each. It was gratefully received. The pig roast was nice but I wasn't that hungry so after a small portion I returned to the hostel, watched a film and went to bed.
31/10/2011:
Feeling refreshed I got up early and had a beach day with two lads I had met the night before, Oli and Dean. I had a redeeming fruit breakfast and then chilled on the beach for most of the day. In the evening we went for dinner as a group and went to the pool bar for a few drinks as it was my last night in Indonesia. We got talking about the previous few weeks antics and there was a few things I had forgot to mention in this so here we go;
When I first arrived in Bali a looked in a bit of a state so decided to get a haircut for 2 quid where you get a free drink. I couldn't tell if the hairdresser was male or female but didn't think much of it. A few days / weeks later Kloburn went for a haircut and returned grinning. He said that he had just had his hair cut by a transvestite named Kiki. She / he was also my hairdresser! Bad times! Looking back on it he was obviously a pre op boy casual dressing like a woman. I will never enjoy a free shampoo again!
Several times I went to the beach with just one of the girls from the hostel. On these days a hawker who called himself Dr Pearl would work his way down to us and try to sell his pearls to the lady in question. Each time he asked if they were my wife. The second time this happen he was very impressed with me and asked me how I got so many girls to "come to the beach". The third time he saw me he thought it was the girl from the first time and gave her a creepy hug, she was not impressed. When he realised it was someone he was further impressed.
On my last beach day I went to an ice cream bar with one of the girls from the hostel for an ice cream coffee. The place was called flapjacks and the coffee was called the "Mocha Big Man", how apt!
1/11/2011:
Okay I remember now today was the day I had the Mocha Big Man after a few hours on the beach. After I had a snack and made my way to the airport with a girl from the hostel who was on the same flight. We knew that there was trouble with Qantas but assumed that all the flights were fine as the issue appeared over. It wasn't. Our flight was delayed by about 5 hours. The guy at the departure desk was kind to me and was surprised I was pleasant back. To thank me he gave me a seat upgrade for extra legroom and two meal vouchers for the airport - get in! After two dinners we tried to relax and make the time pass…
2/11/2011:
It didn't really work. After what seemed like an age we were allowed through to the gate. This was a small room with few staff in. They decided to lock us in their for another hour with no announcements, explanations or even water - what a bunch of muppets. Ofcourse there was uproar. Eventually we boarded and began to flight to Darwin. After landing I jumped on the shuttle bus and made my way to a pre booked hostel. When I jumped of the bus and walked in they told me my booking had been switched, not the best thing to happen after all of the above. I walked the 5 or so minutes onto the next hostel and then had to wait to get into my room. It was turning into a long two days. After I walk to the shop and messing about on the internet in the library where it's free I went to my room for a lay down. In the afternoon I went for a shop to get some supplies and had a quick solitary walk around Darwin. It was fairly lush but I wasn't in the best mood so I went back for a sleep before dinner. I cooked myself some pasta in the busy kitchen as the hostel was a huge one and went to bed for an early night.
3/11/2011:
I slept in until midday but was still tired when I woke up. Its was a nice treat to have an English breakfast of cereal and tea but it seemed like hassel to have to prepare it myself - that's asia making me lazy! During the afternoon I walked round the sites of Darwin which didn't take long as Darwin is so small. I made dinner in the hostel and meet an English girl and guy, Josh and Lauren who were friends with an Aussie guy called Owen. We had a pricy beer or two before another early night.
4/11/2011:
I had another lay in as there isnt really much to do in Darwin. I walked round a few more sites before returning to the hostel to chill out. I had dinner with the guys I had met the previous night and then went out for drinks. We had a fairly decent night but I didn't drink too much due to the price of beer. Owen bought me a few Jagerbombs and we got chatting to a few locals. We called it a night at about 2:30 am.
5/11/2011:
Considering I didn't drink much I was disappointed to be a bit hanging, the day was therefore spent doing nothing bar chilling out round the pool. I had dinner with the guys again before an early night as I was leaving for Cairns the next day.
6/11/2011:
I had to get up at 3am to catch my shuttle bus to the airport, a lot of people were still out drinking which felt a little unfair but I was glad to be leaving Darwin and meeting the little sister. The flight transferred through Gove and after a few hours I was with Alex and Cara. It was really weird to see them so my reaction was a little understated. After a bit of time to sort myself out the girls gave me a quick tour and then we attempted to walk to the Botanic Gardens. We ended up walking for about 3 hours and got completely lost so it was sacked off. We headed back to the hostel and went for some food and beer at a cheap Irish bar where we got a main course and small drink for $5. We bought some Goon and pre drank at the hostel with a load of people the girls had met previously. We ended up in Gilligan's and I was pretty smashed so took myself home before the girls.
7/11/2011:
All three of us were really hungover from the goon but forced ourselves to book the campervan. We went to the Lagoon as Cairns was hot and we got our tan on. We went back to the Irish bar, PJ's, for another $5 deal before returning to the hostel for a few quiet drinks. A few quiet drinks turned into a messy night easily but Alex took it easy as she was driving the next day. We pre drunk with the guys from the previous night and Gaz bought me several drinks for my bday which was celebrated at midnight.
8/11/2011:
I had turned 23 and was a little hungover. We saw Gaz and Budgie in the morning and they got me started on Goon and cookies for my bday breakfast - you just cant escape the stuff! We chilled out and watched a fim before going on a right trek to pick the campervan up. We had to wait ages to be served and returned several hours later feeling hot and bothered. After picking up our stuff and saying Goodbye to the guys we began our drive to Mission beach which was oly a few hours down the coast. We arrived at about 8pm and the girls cooked me a steak dinner for my birthday which was awesome. I bought a crate with some birthday money I had been given and we drank the night away.
9/11/2011:
We awoke early in the morning so we could sneak out of the campsite without paying. We spent the morning on the beach swimming and watching skydivers land before setting of to Townsville. Cara was screaming on the beach as she was afraid of crabs so small they were barely visible. We arrived in the evening so set up and had Fajitas for dinner and a few Goon's. The campervan was too small for 3 people so one person had to sleep on the front seat every night. Nonetheless we crammed in and watched some TV on my laptop before going to sleep.
10/11/2011:
We spent the day in Townsville and headed to Reef HQ, a coral reef aquarium, and checked out kissing point. After we chilled by the pool and made a good salad for dinner. We drank Goon, got smashed, played cards (me and Alex fell out a little because of the drink) and then went to bed.
11/11/2011:
We spent to day driving to Airlie beach and stopped off a few times along the way. We arrived in Airlie in the evening and found a campsite. As it was evening we ate and drank before going to be.
12/11/2011:
We had a fair few days to spare so decided that we would stay in Airlie for a while. We spent the day chilling by the Lagoon sunbathing and reading. We had a walkabout round the town and went shopping (where I fell over to the great amusement of the girls) before getting dome food and drink for the night. We met 2 finish girls at the campsite and went out for drinks with them. We all got smashed and I ended up setting of the alarm at Subway by trying to force the doors open - Scatter! We returned to the van but had a rough nights sleep as it was so hot.
13/11/2011:
We were all hungover and up late so delayed the Whitsundays Island tour until the next day. We went to the Lagoon again to top up the tans. In the evening we cooked a good curry and had a few beers.
14/11/2011:
We awoke early to do a tour of the Whitsunday Islands. We visited Whitehaven beach were we stopped to swim, sunbath and a buffet lunch. The boat we took was a huge speedboat called "Big Fury", the Aussie crew were cool guys and joked around with us but wouldn't let me drive the boat. We moved on and snorkeled before returning to the campsite to chill out and have an early night.
15/11/2011:
We got up early to begin the drive to Rockhampton, again we stopped off along the way but almost ran out of petrol near Rockhampton which caused Mini to be mardy. We chilled at the campsite in the evening and had an early night.
16/11/2011:
We set of for Bundaberg early as it was a long drive, first we stopped in the town of 1770 which was a beautiful coastal resort. After lunch and a quick fish in the sea we drove onto Bundaberg which is famous for its rum and ginger beer. The rum was too expensive so I had the ginger beer. We drove to the turtle sanctuary but after getting there and asking a few questions realised it would be a stupidly late night if we were to do it and we may not even see any turtles. We headed for a campsite but it was closed so had to find another one. The one we found was more of a place where Aussies live in Caravans, it wasn't very nice and the girls wernt impresssed. We therefore decided it would be a good idea for an early night.
17/11/2011:
We snook out at 6am so we didn't have to pay and went to freshen up at the waterfront. We began out drive to Hervey bay and stopped off a few times along the way. Me and mini were at each others throats again so I finished Shantaram to avoid arguments. I got to the end and realised that some pages were missing, the girls found it hilarious - I did not. I continued to keep trip over stuff which the girls also found hilarious - again I did not! We arrived in Hervey bay in the early afternoon and booked the Fraser Island tour before checking into the campsite. I went fishing of the jetty and got talking to a few locals. They were rather odd and preaching god to me, when the girls came to check how I was doing they were laughing at the fact I was still talking to them. I had caught 2 Sea bream of a decent size so I gutted one of them and it became part of our dinner. I was messing about with it and chasing the girls so they took great joy in laughing at me when I nearly dropped it and cut my hand on its fin. We got chatting to a few people who were staying at the campsite and had a few drinks with them before bed.
18/11/2011:
We got up early to go on the Fraser island tour which started with a ferry ride. Once there we boarded four wheel drive buses and took a tour of the beach, shipwreck, coloured rock and creek before lunch. After lunch we went into the rainforest and took a dip in one of the lakes. Back at the campsite we had a few beers with a swiss couple we had met the night before and had omlette and chips for dinner.
19/11/2011:
We got up early and drove to Noosa which was beautiful but all the beachfront campsites were full so we went to one a little more out the way. We had some dinner, played some cards and met two Irish families who we had a few drinks with before bed.
20/11/2011:
We set out Australia Zoo, the home of the crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. We spent half a day there seeing all the animals. It was a really open zoo and we were in the enclosures for a fair few of the animals. We got to stroke Koalas and Kangaroos. We went on to the Glass House Mountains for a photostop before continuing onto Brisbane to find a campsite. On the way I almost totaled the campervan as driving round the city centre is Brisbane is a nightmare. The one we found was a trailer park and was rank but it was late so it had to do. Again the girls wernt impressed. We had some food and a few drinks before an early night.
21/11/2011:
We drove into the city to try and find a hostel and wasted lots of time driving round in circles, I let mini drive as I nearly totalled the van the day before. We checked into Brisbane city backpackers and chilled around the pool before dinner and Goon in the girls room. I met the boys in my dorm who were a big group of lads who had been staying together a while. They were a good group of guys who had lots of banter.
22/11/2011:
We chilled at the hostel before having a walk into the city to book the girls transport. We had a last supper together and I said goodbye to the girls. It was hard saying goodbye but I will be seeing the again in New Zealand and Fiji. I went back to the room and chilled out with the lads before hitting the hay.
Thats all for now folks but i am safe and happy - WISHING YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY XMAS!!! Miss you all, Aaron X x
