Yesterday Michelle had bought me whale watching for a birthday present. So we went to Redcliffe and caught a boat out past Morton island into the ocean. After about an hour and a half of sailing we began to see some evidence of the humpback whales. You could see the spray from their blowholes and the splashes as they hit the water. We sailed closer to one of the pods of whales and got a better look at them. After lunch the whales were obviously feeling very confident and playful as they were jumping up within meters of the boat. It was some amazing sites.
Today we all got up early and Jamie drove us down to Byron Bay which is about two hours from here. This is where Cook first landed and we went up to his lookout point and then further round to the most easterly point and then carried on up to the lighthouse in the picture. It was a tough climb in places but we made it. When we were climbing we could see in the distance some whales playing around and then Jamie pointed out some dolphins playing right below us. Was a good day to see them. We then went up the coast to some good view points and finally Jamie drove us to Tamborinne mountain where we had lunch and looked in some shops. We were going to go for a walk but it was getting late and it can get dark very quickly up there so we didn't think it was such a good idea. Lots of walking and amazing views. Xxx

Bill Wow, sounds like you have seen and done a lot on your tour so far, but why would you go all that distance and not fill every day. Really enjoying the updates, photos and everything about your adventure
Mun It sounds like you had a great time on the whale watching trip. Exciting to see the whales up close. Dad says he is glad to see that you knew that a group of whales was a "pod". As you fly back to Sydney on Monday make the most your last week in Australia and visit Tiffany's and see if you can find a special present to remind you of a very special holiday.
