Arrived safely after a long and uneventful flight. Watched movies and managed to catch a few hours sleep. Mel coped really well. Transferred to our hotel, Cumberland Arms, where thankfully our room was ready. After a quick shower we were ready to go exploring. Onto the Hop on Hop off bus. The traffic was horrendous, so after a few stops, got off near St Paul's cathedral for a visit. Mel climbed 275 steps to the dome. Needed a sit down at the top. Then we walked across the Millenium bridge past Shakespeare's Globe Theatre to the London Bridge, where we did a bridge experience tour, which Mel really enjoyed.
Back on the bus and back to our hotel. After 30 hours on the go, it was time for an early dinner. Off to a British pub for cod with mushy peas and Chips, washed down with a beer. Back to our hotel for a Baileys on ice and bed.
After a good nights sleep and breakfast it was time for day 2.
An organised tour, which included watching the horse guards and the bandsmen getting ready for the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. We followed the bandsmen on foot up the Mall to the palace. Very spectacular.
Mel then wanted to do a Harry Potter walking tour of places around London where the movies were made. A 2 hour walk in quite warm weather, but Mel thought it was great. We followed this up with a visit to Kensington Palace and Harrods. By this time it was after 6pm and time to head home for a well deserved G&T.
It is now 9.30pm and just returned to the hotel after some dinner, ready for bed and another big day tomorrow.
