Today started with more rain , so no swimming but we had a good walk around the beautiful site before we left I hope you will see from the photographs how colourful the trees were and what a lovely location the site was in ....the wildlife seemed to like it too!
We decided to head on down towards Coffs Harbour to see whether we would be able to use the Pacific Highway to get back down south as it had been breached in several places during the floods and we had heard there were several detours expected because guess what? .......more rain has been forecasted for today !
We decided not to go out to the coast at Coffs Harbour as it was raining and we were worried we might get stranded on the only road in and out and so we carried on to see how the road was a little further on All was going well until we got to Kempsey Oh my what those poor people are living with :-( The water is still lying everywhere and is up to the edges of the road for miles and miles but luckily by then it had stopped raining and we decided to stop at Port Macquarie ,which is more of a bay than ocean and very accessible What a good decision :-))) By the time we got there the sun was shining and we were able to have a scrummy lunch in the sunshine by the water ( no cooking again today then ! )
We also had a stroll around the shops and all had handmade ice creams :-)))
We heard that the road from here to Newcastle was again struggling to stay open because of the rain and so we decided to carry on for a few hours to see how things went in case it rained overnight
Again the water was just everywhere as far as the eye could see on both sides of the road The poor cows were standing on small circles of high ground and lots of houses were surrounded by water Goodness knows how long it will take to get rid of it all ..such a sad sight
We are tonight in Karuah which is a pretty little inlet It has a jetty from the campsite into Port Stephen all very picturesque and peaceful , except that there are so many Lorikeets flashing about in the trees and the noise is amazing ....roll on the dawn chorus lol
The Internet is not working at the moment so this may be a little late going on the blog
Hopefully tomorrow we are trying 3rd time lucky to get to see The Blue Mountains Fingers crossed the weather will be with us and we will get to see The Three Sisters before we go back to John and Lis's tomorrow
Early night for us all as the Mosquitos are out ( another awful side effect of the water lying around )and there is no Internet or television ! It is so peaceful here though and it is a good game trying to guess what is making all the different noises outside ;-)
Thank goodness once again for our air conditioning as even though we have been so unlucky with the amount of rain , the temperature has never dropped below 25 since we got here ! I only realised today that none of us have worn a jumper/cardigan in over 3 weeks !
