We went on a 4WD tour of the Gran Sabana (Grand Savannah) today, and visited many waterfalls: Quebrada de Jaspe, Salto Yupriano, Salto Kama, Salta Kawi, and saw many tepuys from afar. We were so spoilt by the waterfalls at Canaima and the Angel Falls that we were a little dismissive of these smaller but still very pretty falls. I think we were also less appreciative because we were chauffered from one stop to the next; whereas when we were made to work for it, ie. hike and sit through a long, cold and wet boat ride to see the falls at Canaima ... it made us appreciate the sights all the more. Our driver started learning English 15 days ago - so it was another great opportunity for me to practise my Spanish whilst teaching him a new English word or 2.
I am feeling right at home at the moment, enjoying the local beer on the patio of the backpacker´s hostel (which serves as the dining area) - and all they have playing in a continuous loop is Village People, Beatles, Beach Boys and Queen - just my scene!
We will be crossing the border into Brazil tomorrow morning, and boarding our 20-hr bus to Manaus, via Boa Vista.
