Arrived early yesterday morning and spent the day getting oriented around town and lazing by the pool.
We took a boat tour around the Parnaiba Delta today. It is the 3rd largest delta in the world after the Nile and Mekong. It was a pleasant trip - we enjoyed a good dip in the sea (great surf and extremely strong currents), cruised through the mangroves and we had a few crab and monkey sightings, and we finished with a walk on the sand dunes. The sand dunes are beautiful, particularly the contrast of yellow sands against the blue sky. We were real juveniles and ran up this sand wall that was about 60 - 80 ft high. It was not the easiest feat as we brought down a lot of sand with each step.
It is so easy to lose track of time - we constantly forget what day of the week it is, what date it is - what a fantastic feeling! No deadlines … and every day is a weekend! I had to make a special effort to remember the dates today and tomorrow - Happy Birthday Angie, and Happy Birthday Mum!
