Day One Hundred Forth Five May 30
We purchased a two-hour bridges and boat tour of Stockholm yesterday for 11:00 so we took the 09:30 shuttle into town.
Janice has been looking for special glass frames but has had no luck so maybe Stockholm who knows. No luck, I guess she will need to buy online.
The metropolitan area of Stockholm comprises 2.4 million people and stretches across fourteen islands. Stockholm is called 'The City of Islands. From the boat cruise we can see the MSC Poesia in port.
When we get on the boat only two couples are wearing masks (us and another couple from the ship). The boat cruise takes us from the Baltic Sea through its one lock into Lake Malaren to explore other areas of the city. With the city surrounded by water, Stockholm continues to create greenspaces for its citizens.
During the cruise we are made aware of Drottningholm Palace the private residence of the Royal Family and a World Heritage Site. Unfortunately, we cannot see it from Lake Malaren due to the dense foliage.
As the tour ends it is off to the Nobel Peace Prize Building in Old Town. We noticed its location last evening while walking to our restaurant. Just like Oslo, the building is not open on Mondays and its strike two for seeing a Nobel Building.
The Old Town is like others I have seen with its narrow cobblestone streets, open style restaurants and many shops.
Not wanting to be on the last shuttle we make our way back to the drop off point but the bus if full and we need to wait for the final bus one hour later.
Playing to the music of ABBA our ship departs at 15:00 for Visby 100 nautical miles away. The weather cooperated both days in Stockholm with no rain. Our fingers are crossed for the next few days.
