Day 115 - Wednesday May 8, 2024, Mumbai, India
All Aboard: 16:00 Departure 18:00
We have returned from our time in Nepal and have just a few hours to explore Mumbai again a first for us.
We have a Viator half day booked with Karen and Tom.
Our first stop was to the Gateway of India, an arch-monument completed in 1924 on the waterfront. Close to the gateway monument sits the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotels which was part of the 2008 terrorists' attacks in Mumbai by Islamist terrorists from Pakistan.
A second stop was to an Indian slum where laundry is washed and dried every day. The guide asked whether we wanted to go inside one of the homes in the area but to respect their privacy we declined.
With an estimated population of 20 million driving around the city proved to be an issued. You needed to be very aggressive as well as have a good car horn.
While visiting Mumbai, all tours will always include Mani Bhavan Gandi Sangrahalaya on the itinerary. Here we were able to see displays and photographs of Gandhi in a three-story building. It was quite educational and inspirational, and it might be time to watch the Gandi movie again.
The final stop of course was to a local market. The guide did not want to leave us so therefore no free time to explore.
Four hours is not enough time to explore India's second most populous and vibrant city.
As Insignia leaves the port, we have two seadays ahead of us before we reach Khasab, Oman 1,094 nautical miles away.

Lynda I watched the Gandhi bio movie when on our last cruise. Our butler was also from India, and shared knowledge with us daily, especially when we got to India and the countries around there. I was especially surprised with his work in South Africa, as we went there also, and you will be there also. Look to see if they are showing the hour long bio.
