Day Fifteen January 20
The island of Hawaii was our final destination of our six day trip to Hawaii. Our ship tendered to the port pf Kailua- Kona rather than Hilo which we thought was the original port.
You should never assume that the itinerary originally provided to you is the final one. A private tour to visit the volcaneo and the black rock surrounding it needed to be cancelled as there was not enough required time to visit it. Those passengers on the tour from the ship needed to be ready for 7AM and an eight hour tour which required approximately 4 hours of just driving. No thank you.
The island was discovered by Captain James Cook in 1778 and where he also was killed.
Janice and I toured the main street of Kona and then returned to the ship. Kona is a quaint village with many small shops and restaurants.
This was the second time we needed to tender to the pier. Last tender was 15:30 with a departure time of 16:00.
We are sailing to the island of French Polynesia upon departure and will arrive after four sea days.
I will not be updating the blog until we reach French Polynesia.
