Day One Hundred Two - April 17
The island of Lesbos is situated in the Aegean Sea quite close to the Turkish mainland. The entire island's population is 115,000 while Mytilini its capital has roughly 36,000 inhabitants.
Tendering to the port was necessary here. There was only one tour available being the Highlights of Lesbos. We decided to take the tender and explore the town on our own with Keith and Ilona.
The New Archaeological Museum was our first stop and the 4 Euros per person was worth the admission. Our second stop was further up the hill to Mytilini Castle with its catacombs which were very impressive.
The town itself includes shops and restaurants but only get busy during the summer months when the tourists arrive. With the exception of Greeks, Germans and Poles also visit the island. We walked a little around town and had a wonderful greek lunch.
We returned to the ship at 15:00 and departed 17:00 for Athens 190 nautical miles away.
Tomorrow will be April 18 and the start of forteen ports in fifteen days. The blogs may be a bit shorter due to this but I will try to publish one every day.
