Day One Hundred Fifteen - April 30
Our last day of April brings us to our first port in France and last port on the French Riviera. We will not be visiting France again until we leave the Mediterranean.
While sailing in I noticed many French war ships. Toulon is home of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and her battle group. She was in port today.
The city itself has a population of 580,000 is an important centre for naval construction, fishing and wine making.
No ship tour today as we planned to just walk around the town. A quick tour of the city was done on les Petits Trains de Toulon which take you around some of the sites of the city.
One of places we passed was the Stade Mayol home of Rugby Club Toulonnais who play in the first tier of French rugby while its football (soccer) team , Spoting Toulon Var plays in the fourth tier of French football.
Hopping a bus after the train we made our way to Telpherique du Faron for a picturesque view of the city below. The views were amazing.
Once back down from the cable car we decided to walk back in search of our first French baguette which we found at Snack St. Anne. I believe many more opportunities will be found when we return to France.
It was just more walking for the rest of the day before we returned to the ship for an early dinner at Pllo Steak Restaurant. I was beginning to feel the results of Janice's cold and hacking cough so I managed to eat and then excused myself.
It was only a matter of time before I caught her bug.
Tomorrow is another port day, in Barcelona for two days.
