Day One Hundred Sixty-Four - June 18
This is the second time we have stopped in this quaint French town at the northern point of France near the entrance to the River Seine.
Honfleur is directly across the river from La Havre. There has been no change in the lumber pallets on the pier in the 12 days since we were here last. I learned that the town is one of the distribution ports for Scandinavian lumber in Europe.
A shuttle bus is running every fifteen minutes to take us into town. The distance again was not much but a portion runs along a road without any sidewalks so the shuttle it was.
We are dropped off at Gare Routiere where to Janice's delight it was Saturday market day and therefore more shopping! I am not sure where this will all fit in our luggage, but we will discuss this later. Covered market stalls spring up in this small area. We did not get pass the first stall before Janice made her first purchase.
Market day brought out many vendors as well as people to check out what was happening. Again, like other European cities or towns cobblestone street are prevalent and you need to be careful when walking.
Continuing our walk through the vendors we came across many restaurants surrounding the small harbour with its colourful boats.
We were told that St. Catherine's Church was worth a visit. It is the largest church in France to be built entirely of wood. The roof looks like an inverted wooden boat.
This is our last chance for a French baguette at one of the restaurants but no such luck. A Super Market was found so we purchase a baguette, some ham and cheese to make a picnic.
This is a nice place to visit which should not be missed if you have a chance to visit the area.
On our sail towards the Atlantic Ocean, we passed beachgoers enjoying the hot weather.
By the time we left Honfleur, all our Euros had been spent on tops, shoes, chocolate, wine, and salt.
Au revoir to France and hello to London as we make our way to the next port of call.
