Hi all. We are now in Beijing, staying in a hotel in a central part of the city. We have had a busy pace but at least it is not quite as hot and humid as Chengdu. Yesterday we spent the day in the Forbidden City- a series of Imperial Halls and and private quarters and gardens where the Imperial Emperors of China once lived and ruled. An enormous area of beautifully preserved Chinese history - a fascinating history. Interestingly, as you leave the front entrance of the Forbidden city there is a huge photo of Chairman Mao - right in front of the Forbidden City - I wonder if there is a symbolic message there! This is also located right outside Tian'amen Square!
Today was spent walking the Great Wall - absolutely fantastic. Can't begin to describe how awesome this was. Very strenuous but an amazing structure and spectacular views. You will have to wait for the photos.
Anyway can't write for long - internet time is difficult.
Hi to you all.
