Venice…the mother of all party's and home to the 'Attitude Adjuster'!
The ferry was Corfu to Venice was luxury for us! We got on at a ridiculous hour so had a sleep again once we boarded, then we had the rest of the day and another night to sleep in beds! Breakfast was included and again that was luxury! Sitting at a table while eating was great aswell!
We had 2 nights in Venice and the camping ground we stayed at was heaps of fun! They had a live band at their bar, that was one of the first times we had seen a live band at a bar so we made the most of it! The first night everyone had a pretty good night and by the end of it we were lying on the grass looking at the stars! The next morning, our full day on one of the main islands of Venice started with a boat trip to the island! It was a pretty long 20minutes for a few people to say the least after our first night!
It took us a while to realise why Venice was so different to all the other places we had visited so far….on the islands there are obviously no cars! All the streets are so narrow and everyone always says 'To see Venice you have to get lost in the streets, you will always find your way back.' So true it is, we managed to get lost and find our way back to where we started! In the morning we went to 2 demonstrations, Venice is known for its glass and lace. So of course we went to both. The glass demonstration was amazing! And the shop afterwards was exactly the same! It's kind of like the insurance ad at home though with the bull in the china shop- you feel like your going to break everything! The lace shop, there wasn't a demonstration. They just showed us the main types of lace and how it is made.
That afternoon we went on one of the Gondola's! It was so nice going through all the canals and the man on our boat sung to us and told us a bit about he city. So many of the houses right beside the canals are not lived in anymore because they are too expensive to buy in the first place and then maintain.
The night of Sarah's birthday!! That was one to remember!! We tried to find a cake and candles in Venice but apparently that's not how they celebrate birthdays in Italy! So we had to settle for a sponge roll thing that was semi stale and 3 large wax candles that were demolished by the end of the night! She did attempt the 19 shots but failed only just! A pretty good effort though! Our last night with the attitude adjuster- a drink made up of several different shots and orange juice!! A lot tastier than it sounds!
