Ashley & Sarahs Adventures
Hi all, in Franz Josef at the moment which is on the west coast of New Zealand. From Nelson we headed to Greymouth, not really worth a mention! Although on the journey we did pass through 2 National Parks and saw the pancake rocks. When we arrived in Franz we went straight out on a quad-bike ride with some people we met. It was so much fun! Despite the engine noise Ash could hear me screaming through the puddles and I could hear him laughing when a cow ran out of its field in front of me. We would recommend it to anybody, it was such a laugh, and very muddy! The track consisted of rocky streams, mud, BIG puddles, grassland and even through a rainforest. Earlier today we went on a 'heli-hike'. Franz Josef is one of three places in the world to have a subtropical glacier, so it had to be done. It started with a helicopter ride over and to the top of the glacier. This is where we landed and began our walk. We trekked through ice-caves and crevaces, it was pretty dangerous in a few places but we loved it. The guide makes a fresh path everytime with an ice axe as the glacier moves down the valley 2m a day whilst changing shape all the time. We really didn't realise the tiny gaps we would have to crawl through, annoyingly we couldn't get these in photos as we were too busy trying not to fall down a crevace! From Franz Josef we head to Lake Wanaka and then down to Queenstown where we go to Milford Sound, which we are both looking forward to. We have uploaded some photos from Ash's camera, afraid you will have to wait till our next update for the quad-bike photos as they are on Sarahs which we forgot to bring to the internet bus. Until next time! XXXxxxx
