Tuesday was the day in which we were left to our own devices to explore the city. David had kitted us out with all the gear to go biking and so off we headed to Kings Park before finding the university to meet Laurence, a guy we`d both studied with at Loughborough. After taking a few wrong turns and finding ourselves in the middle of what looked like a freeway, we finally found the beautiful park, regarded as the best park in Australia. (For those of you that can remember I was the only one who didnt pass my cycling proficency st primar school and so bikes, me and roads have never mixed!). We took in the wonderful views over the Swan River and city before taking one of the routes through the park. We walked past many of the locals running, this would definately be my choice of venue to run too if I lived here!
Upon arrival at the University of Western Australia we met Laurence and he took us on a bit of a tour around the campus before eating our lunch on the river. Ash was again amazed at the location for kiting and we watched in anticipation as one guy set up and went out with a kite. After a brief catch up with Laurence we headed back along the river taking in the amazing vews and trying out the exercise equipment that had recently been installed. To get back home we took a bit of a detour though the city and finally ended up where we needed to be. Our day was topped off as we spent a lovely evening with Anna and some of her prayer group friends at a xmas BBQ.
Wednesday was another active day starting at 8am when Anna and Esther picked us up and we made our way to Stathams Quarry. As we were kitted out with helmets, harnesses and gloves the excitement rose. Here we spent the day abseiling and climbing which was great fun and one of the best days activity weve had so far. Although we`d both done some climbing indoors or abseiling down a tower this was nothing compared to the real thing. Standing on the edge was particuarly scary for me being scared of heights and when attempting the overhang I didnt think I was able to do it but I swallowed my fear and gave it a good go! Ash was much more confortable and when climbing very nearly made the top to "kiss the ring". Esther and Andy treated us to churrios in Leederville on our way back which were a great top off to the day.
In the evening we headed to Luna cinema in Leederville with David and Jo to watch the recently released 'Social Network'. The evening was then topped off with coffee and tea at a local haunt before a well earned good nights sleep.
