We have both decided that we really like Laos, especially Luang Prabang. After our long boat ride we decided to chill out on Tuesday and go to a waterfall with some guys we'd met from the boat. After a nice tasty breakfast from Utopia (everyone who has visited Luang Prabang will know this little piece of heaven) we headed over to the guys hostel and took a tuk tuk ride for about an hour. We even met a 'northerner' from Blackburn who was hilarious and him and Ash talked football most of the way.
The weather was cloudy but fine so we were looking forward to a good swim in the waterfall. After climbing to the top we headed back down and couldnt resist swinging on the tarzan rope into the water. Great fun apart from when the little fish started biting at your feet! Our fun was cut short as the next thing we know the heavens open and it absolutely pours down. The group we are with are all in boardies or a bikini so we looked ridiculous, particuarly when it didnt stop and we had to walk back to the drop off point in our swimwear. Luckily our driver was early (otherwise we wouldve had to wait 2 hours) and we headed back to the town for a nice warm (yes warm!) shower. That evening we continued with our chill out and wandered around the night market.
Ash had seen a sign asking for volunteers to teach English 9-11am every weekday so the following day (Wednesday) we decided to go along. Good job really as we were the only ones there! By 10am we probably had 6 eager and keen students, all at different levels so it was tough but we both really enjoyed it. Because we were leaving the next day we gave out our email to those who wanted to practise writing in English. They seemed really happy. One student travelled 3 hours to get there which really puts it into words how eager these people are. If only my students in England were so motivated!
We spent the rest of the day visiting the local palace where the king and queen used to live and sorting out our bus tickets to Vientiane (the capital) and then onto Pakse the follwing night. As ive already said we have quickly grown to love Laos, the people, the scenery and the general atmosphere of the country and are really looking forward to our time exploring the south. We are turning into real travellers too as we both bought some pnats from the night market that night for a pound each which are true traveller style! Ash also couldnt resist the old famous Laos beet t shirt which looks great on him.

Matilde I'm loving reading your blog! Sounds like you're having a great time X
Jen AGHHHHHHHHHH! I love it love it love it!!! Justin has a Beer Laos T shirt too - he was wearing it yesterday much to my dismay (I bought it for him, but it's far too small) I knew you would love UPTOPIA. I think it's amazing. The staff are so cute. I love Laos - you guys should try and go off the beaten track a bit if you get time (although I used to get pd off with travellers telling me how remote they had been yadayadah) xx
Cat I'm so excited by the fact that fish were nibbling your feet. How cool! Sounds so beautiful the stuff of dreams really. It's great reading this it takes you away from the doom and gloom of the weather in England.
