A relatively uneventful overnight journey from Cusco with a 3 hour wait at Puno bus station and not so fresh toilets, despite our 30p charge, we had made it into Bolivia and our first stop of Copachobana! Quite a small town totally relaint as a stop off to La Paz and also a trip to Isla del Sol. The next day we were on a boat and in search of that sunshine on that aptly named island. The 2 hour journey complete and the dark clouds were now clearing, while a 1.20 GBP (cold) burger stall had been spotted. Refuelled we called into the Mueso to buy our tickets for entrance to the ruins, essentially this was a ticket office, not a museum unless they were hiding something behind the counter...
By this time we had met a British couple (Keeley and Alan) and were in full conversation for most of the time as we checked out the ruins and walked from North to South. A welcome distraction as the hills of the island at plus 4000m and some pure sunshine made for a bit more of a challenge than we were used to.
After 3 hours we were met by two young locals (8 and 10 years) who had taken it upon themselves to show us to a hotel. For their age they were pretty knowledgable on the pricings of the island and indeed got us sorted with a basic but awesome view of the ridge for 2.50 GBP each a night.
After almost an hours wait for food (think the pizzas may have been cooked other side of the island!) we enjoyed a well deserved feed then took the now pitch black walk back to the hostel.
We woke early in the morning to make sure we caught boat back then a quick walk/jog up the hill from me to secure a bus ticket out in a couple of hours follwed by an awesome burger and a coke for 1.20 GBP we were on our way through the mountains and over Lake Titicaca (via interesting single barges for buses) to La Paz. Arrival in La Paz was slightly delayed due to a bridge being overcome by flood waters followed by a stubborn (and at times aggressive) carnival crowd blocking the road into La Paz. Thankfully we weren´t driving our own car through as we may have needed a new bonet while we also had our window closed unlike the passengers behind us who got a face full of spray foam which we later becme very familiar with on the streets!!!
