Woke up 7am today, hoping to make the most of the day as seeing its my last day in Istanbul. I had traditional turkish breakfast, the strange looking homemade jam tasted so good! Planning the day while eating breakfast and decided to visit 6 'istanbul's famous' heritage sites: Galata Tower, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace and Guyhane Park. We set off and started exploring the city of Istanbul. Galata Tower is beautiful and we went up at the top of the tower and saw plenty of breath taking views. Never seen so many Mosques! We continue our way to over the bridge to Blue Mosque, such an amazing architectural building. We couldn't get inside as today is Muslim's prayer day, never mind. Within 10 minutes walking distance we are at Hagia Sofia, I have to admit its beautiful building but not at it greatest condition. Managed to get in for free because of our disability (suppose 25TL), phew! Inside of the Hagia Sophia is completely opposite to the outside, really beautiful with plenty of details. Interesting fact, Hagia Sophia used to be Church hundreds years ago but was converted into Mosque - in which eyes, god or allah hmm. We then went to Basilica Cistern, it's an underground museum and used to store waters in 8th century! The palace and park was not too bad. The weather was cloudy and mildly rained but managed to have some sunburn. We panicked and rushed to the airport thinking we'll be late BUT Davy read the time wrong, end up waiting for 4 hours in the airport - reckon he need new pair of glasses eh :) Departing for Dubai in couple of minutes! See you on my next blog :) x
