Wednesday

We started off the day with a walk up to the next settlement to check out the handcraft store and art gallery but that was closed till 10 am . Up and back took about 1 hour. There was a glacier behind that settlement. We were warned not to go outside the edge of the settlement as polar bears roam there. ,,,,

We then went on a tour outside the settlement visiting No 7 coal mine , the huge satellite dishes at the top of the hill and the worlds only seed bank. We then explored the supermarket and walked to take a photo of the huge red post box Santa's Post Box.

We went by bus from the hotel to the ship and boarded by Zodiac. I was in cabin 443 and Devi in Cabin 441 with a shared bathroom . We were on the 4 th deck of the ship total of 7 decks. We had some briefings to do about life on the ship and a lifeboat drill .

That kept us all busy for a while.

Dinner was in the dining room on the 3 rd deck

The ship had to take on some water and we sailed at 11pm. It was daylight all night hence the name "land of the midnight sun "
