Having rubbed the sleep out of our eyes, and me being kicked out of bed by Q, we prepared for our morning run to the Angkor Wat. Here, amongst the crowd of tourists, we watched the sun rise above the temple. I'm sure it looks amazing, but on our cloud covered morning it was somewhat uninspiring... the setting however was hilarious, with a load of tourists milling around to get the best spot for their highlight shot of the Angkor Wat visit.
Our tuktuk driver for the day drove us back to the hotel for breakfast where we also picked up our guide for the day. A rush of temples followed. Starting with the Pink Lady Temple, Banteay Srei, followed by the Tomb Raider temple, Ta Prohm, Pre Rup, Prasat Kravan, Ta Som and possibly some others we might've forgotten... So. Many. Temples. Aside from all the details of the different temples our guide was also pretty good in explaining things on how people lived in the area, what they planted, why their houses were setup like they were so we got a broad experience of Cambodian life. I reckon the drive through the country roads was just as good as seeing all the temples!
Coming back through the thunder and rain (we barely survived, I swear) we decided to wait for the rain to hold of before we went out for dinner. Except it didn't stop raining, not even a little bit. So we decided to first go for a massage, we had walked all up and down those temples after all, followed by a delicious dinner at... our hotel, you didn't really expect us to go out in the rain, did you? :)
That night we'd also decided to stay an extra day as the nearby village of Chong Khneas was apparently worth the effort. Another bumpy ride and we'd reached our destination, Chong Khneas, a tiny floating village on the Topnle Sap Lake. Pretty impressive to see life on the water, though we travelled through the area while the water was somewhat low so we could still see the mangrove, and to know the village moved depending on the water level. They dropped us off at a crocodile farm, local community market (where we bought 60kg of rice), and two of the schools (where we donated said rice). It was cool to see the kids playing and running around on two big floating school barges. For the sake of safety they're all taught swimming before they go to the school.
When we got back to Siem Reap we grabbed some snacks from the foodcarts to sate our hunger. Followed by foot massages to compliment our body massage of the previous evening. In our extremely chill mode we went for cocktails... again at The Sun, and since we were there anyway we went for dinner as well, not as good as the cocktails but still pretty decent. Two cocktails and dinner later, and still going strong, we decided to head over to the bar across the street to check out the live band. Here we enjoyed another few cocktails and beers while watching the local ladies of pleasure operate, we're still not sure if the guy was aware of the fact or not. Not a bad night, which got even better when they managed to charge us for only half the drinks :)
