Spent 7 hours at the Taronga Zoo today. It was tough work, but by the end I think Chloe and I saw every square inch. ;-) It was awesome!
Again, we lucked out with gorgeous weather. We got to take a ferry across the harbour again, over to the zoo and back. Jason -- thanks so much for the recommendation to see the bird show. The show was impressive enough, but being set against the backdrop of a full panorama of the Sydney harbour was just breath-taking!
And the animals! We got to walk through the "Australian Walkabout" section where kangaroos, wallabees, and even a huge emu were hopping all around us. We got even closer to a bunch of koalas, but that wasn't as exciting because they are *always* sleeping in their trees (20 hours a day -- what a life!). I also got to see my first platypus (Darwin's "bane"). I could have sat and watched the young chimpanzees play all day long. We were entertained by a dancing elephant. And I saw my first live Tasmanian Devil!
There are so many animals in the rest of the world that have marsupial counterparts in Australia. It's wild to watch what looks like a rat *hop* off into the brush.
Be sure to check out the highlight pix under the "Photo Albums" tab to see some of these critters!
