Having a great time on my trip! Time is flying by and I'm loving every minute of it! So far I've spent 2 months in Thailand, a month in Laos and I'm currently in Cambodia en route to Vietnam! Seeing loads and getting lots of sun!
I went to chiang mai in northern thailand first, thr cultural capital of thailand! Saw lots of temples and sights! Had some holiday time on the thai islands then for a few weeks; lots of fun and met lots of other backpackers, a few of who I'm still travelling with now.
I was teaching English in Thailand for a while in September and start of October; it's so different to teaching in general, all those tenses! I'll be back teaching again in a few weeks and also when I get to Australia in february but primary school that time.
Laos is the most amazing country, its probably the least Westernised of all the countries I've seen so far. We saw the main towns and capital city and then went to the very south, an area called 4000 islands on the Mekong river. We stayed on one of the islands there and it was so rural, little huts on stilts by the river, buffalo and cows in the fields, and dirt tracks for roads! A group of us went to a local Lao boating festival one day and we were the only foreigners there!
In Phnom Penh, Cambodia at the moment. Was volunteering at an orphanage here for a few days. There were 106 children living there ranging in ages from 2 to 16. They have lessons from Monday to Saturdaywhere they are taught through english and even the little ones had quite good English. It was a lovely place, and although their circumstances are so unfortunate the children seemed so full of life and happy.
So on to vietnam next, I've luckily managed to avoid the typhoon that has hit Asia and is causing major flooding in Bangkok. So fingers crossed that the sun will follow me to Vietnam!
