Hey everyone,
I am finally in Melbourne and its a great city although it ain't that hot or sunny which was a bit surprising.
I left Jersey on Saturday evening and got to the Hotel about 9pm and just chilled, got some food and watched tv for a while. We got to Heathrow early and checked in and went through security; which went really quick for once. After a nice english breakfast we waited to board the plane, which turned out to be an hour late. We sat near a window and next to a guy from Melbourne who we got on well with and made the trip slightly easier. The flight to Hong Kong was not the most comfortable 11 hours of my life thats for sure; a lack of sleep and water and a faulty movie system were to blame for that. After a quick walkabout in Hong Kong Aiport (while the plane was getting restocked and cleaned) we flew on to our destination- Melbourne. This time the 8 hour trip was much better with all the things mentioned earlier being sorted. We finally touched down in Melbourne at 10.30pm (11.30am Jersey time) and went straight to the hotel. which was pretty good but very basic. I then got a very nice pint from the local pub even if it did cost the equivalent of 3 quid 50.
For our first day in Melbourne we started off by booking several tours we would be going on; Neighbours, Great Ocean Road and Philip Island. After a look around the city we got on a free coach around the main bits and then went to the Immigration museum, which was really informative about Australian history. We then went back to the hotel and relaxed for a bit before scaling the 252 metre Rialto Towers for an awesome view of the city and useful to get bearings for certain places. We ate in the enormous crown casino and managed to catch the end of the New Zealand vc England cricket game which to my delight we won! which means it'll be us poms against the aussies on Friday and i'm watching it!
Today we started off by checking out of the hotel and going on the negibhours tour around the studio where I met Doctor Karl again (met him in Plymouth last year) and saw the real Ramsay Street which is actually pretty tiny and is occupied by normal people. We then found our hostel which we will be stayin in the next 6 nights andturned out to be only across the river from the hotel. After sorting our bags out we went on a tour around the MCG where we managed to see everything, including the Australian cricket team who were outside in the nets have a practise! quality. This evening we are just chilling in the hostel and having food we bought earlier in a supermarket.
Tomorrow its off to the Great Ocean Road
Speak to you all soon
