Cusco
We arrived in Cusco around 2 am which made finding somewhere to sleep a little difficult! Luckily we found a guy who was on his way to his hostel from a club and said they had room. We were with Zara and Janine and seen as we had to be up and out in 7 or so hours we decided it would be cheapr to just get a 4 bed dorm and all crash in there. The next morning we rushed o McDonalds for a longawaited treat (since our last one in NZ Angie has craved it at least once a day!). Antonio went looking for hotels and found a nice one which we could move in to and relax for a few days after the hassle in Puno.
The next day we began exploring the city and found ourselves in the middle of a big parade and the “festival of the sun” so we watched loads of shows and just chilled with the locals. We had to take a day away from travelling for the Football but unfortunately the result was not a great one for Antonio and we had to call it an early night both due to Antonio´s disappointment at the football and the fact we were going to Machu Picchu the next day. We woke up at 3.30!...yes 3.30 and set off at 4! As we were waiting for our taxi people were still coming home from bars, proving to us that it was indeed WAY too early to be waking up!
After a long ride at break neck speed up winding roads we finally arrived at the train station and boarded the peru rail train to Machu Picchu. After a 4 hour journey we finally arrived and spent the day exploring the ruins and got a guide who told us lots about the history and importance of the site. It was a very enjoyable but extremely long day and we arrived back to cusco around 11 at night. We were in no mood to sit and waiting a restaurant so it was back to McDonalds and quickly before bed! The next day we boarded a coach for a 20 hour trip to Lima however we were pleasantly surprised as it was a luxury bus with big comfy seats, great food and even movies in English!
Lima
We arrived early in Lima and had already made the decision we were not staying here so booked tickets out on another overnight bus this time to Huanchaco however this did not leave until 10pm leaving us with 10 hours to kill. We decided to explore the city a bit so dropped our bags in the coach station and headed out. After a few hours aimlessly wandering around shops that we had no money to buy anything from we stumbled across a cinema and looked to see if there was anything playing in English. Luckily it was showing the Hangover 2 and it was starting pretty soon so we got two tickets (that cost about 75p each!). We went in to the most dated cinema in the world (looked like an odeon cinema from 1994) but the movie was funny and it killed a few hours. After wasting away a few more hours we caught our bus and it was an even nicer coach than the first one with big comfy leather 180 degree seats meaning it was completely flat and just like a real bed!
