We arrived in "Windy Wellington" quite late in the evening so drove to a small area outside the main city to park up for the night. After spending a day charging up and finding out there are no freedom campsites in Wellington, Antonio had managed to find a campsite in Porirua (District of Wellington) that would allow us to stay for free in exchange for an hour's work a day each. We drove up and met the manager who explained the work and we decided to start straight away. Antonio had to strim the grass around the camp and Angie mucked out the donkey field as they had two (called Rhubarb and Jelly). They were very scared due to a recent dog attack but Dr Angie "Doolittle" Burrow managed to get them eating out her hand before the day was out. Our next day we decided to explore the heart of Wellington and got a train to the city centre (cheaper than parking!) our first stop being the Te Papa museum a massive place over 6 floors. We then rode the "Wellington cable car" which takes you to a lookout point over the city where we took some photos before walking back down through the Botanical gardens. Before catching our train back we stopped off at all the Parliament buildings.
During our time we also visited Wellington Zoo seeing different animals including; Penguins; Otters; Lions; Tigers; Sun Bears and a load of different monkeys. After seeing all the enclosures and watching a few shows we headed to a film production company with a small museum called Weta Cave. The Weta Cave consists of original props, costumes and models from loads of the films made by Weta. Weta work with Character models, make-up artists, costume designers, graphics engineers etc and have worked on films such as Lord of the Rings, Avatar, I Robot, District 9 and King Kong. We watched a interesting video on the company and also got to see lots of bits from the movies up close. After Wellington we headed to Palmerston North (Palmy) where our Friend Natalie and her family have recently moved to and stayed with them for a few days. It was amazing having a proper bed and real home cooked food went down a treat! Natalie's family were brilliant and really looked after us making us realise how much we miss our home comforts.
