Day 28
Finally we reach Penang, Malaysia at around 4pm. We were told (from a reliable source this time) about Banana Guesthouse which sorted your Thai visas out for you at no extra cost once you had paid for one nights accommodation so that was easy enough.
The visit to Penang was solely for visa purposes so we just chilled out at night. We booked our ticket to Ko Tao through the guesthouse, another 15 hour journey back to Thailand. Get. In. There.
Day 29
Our transport to Ko Tao (minibus then boat) wasn't until 4pm so we just walked around the market in Penang for a couple of hours.
We went to the cash point in Penang and for some reason just guessed what the exchange rate from GBP to MYR was. Why? I don't know. I think there was some logic to it at the time but we ended up taking out the equivalent of GBP280.00 for about 2 hours which we had left in Malaysia. How we have survived this far in our travels I do not know - anyone seen those dunce hats?
Anyway I bought a few items of clothing to spend a bit of the money. Two tops and a pair of trousers came to a whole GBP10.00.
We got back to the guesthouse to get our passports back (yey we have our visas!! 60 days of WORRY-FREE Thailand ahead of us) and jumped on the mini bus.
We met a girl, Rachel on the bus who was going to Ko Tao also. She was telling us about the PADI Scuba Diving courses available there which we are going to do so looking forward to that. The journey again was long and boring but we managed to sleep. Roll on tomorrow....
