We arrived in Innsbruck on the 11th via an amazingly scenic train ride from Zurich through Lichtenstein and the mountains that surround the city of Innsbruck. We had no idea that the austrian landscape was as naturally beautiful as that of Switzerland with all it's mountainside towns and crystal clear lakes, but as we sped through tunnels of mountain rock and shot out into scenic villages, we were amazed!
We spent just 2 nights in the city of Innsbruck, as we wanted to also spend some time in a smaller, mountainside village before we moved on to Salzburg. Having recently discovered Airbnb which is a website for people with a spare room or apartment to find people to rent to, we gave it a go and booked a room in an Austrian guy's flat in the heart of the small city. His apartment was virtually brand new and had everything we could have wanted; from awesome kitchen to make dinners in to an epic rain shower which made a nice change from hostel 'button activated' showers.
Having only one full day in Innsbruck, we spent it exploring the old town in the pouring rain and freezing cold (still hard to believe we were sweating it out in 45 degree heat in Marrakech less than 4 weeks ago!) which included trying a couple of strudels and locally produced schnapps and even an absinthe one! We also found Nat's dirndl outfit for Oktoberfest in a fashion store so check out our latest photo albums!
