It's a week into our trip now and we've already seen lots. So let's start from the beginning... Exactly a week ago, mum dropped us off at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. It was raining, cold and gray. We got on our flight to Frankfurt and everything went smoothly until we arrived there.. our connecting flight to US was canceled!! We were meant to fly to Chicago and change there to catch the Seattle flight, but so many flights had been canceled and there was no chance to get to US that day. At first they said all the flights were completely full for the next two days, but we were desperate to get there and a nice German fellow finally found us seats for the following day on a Singapore Airlines flight to New York. Not bad, since Singapore Airlines is like million times better than crappy American Airlines. American Airlines gave us food vouchers and paid for our fancy Sheraton hotel, across the street from the airport, so we were happy enough and headed to the city.
On our flight over the Atlantic we watched a few good films, there was over 100 different films to choose from (plenty of Asian also films, Nanna you would've loved them!) and had delicious Thai curry for dinner. We had 5 hours in JFK, so we decided to hop on a taxi and head downtown to New York City for lunch :) We walked around East Village and found a lovely Mexican restaurant. While sipping margaritas and enjoying the sunshine, we weren't at all annoyed anymore about the previous days flight hassle. On our way back to JFK, we got a cool taxi driver who had lots of stories to tell and wanted to do a bit of sightseeing on the way.
Finally arrived in Seattle, only a day later than planned and booked into a great hostel (Green Tortoise). The next day we went up the space needle to admire the beautiful city and then took a bus to Vancouver. In Vancouver we met up with my "old" friend Kyle (at the border crossing they were really strict- asking lots of questions like why are we going there and how do I know this friend and I didn't know what to say, so just answered "well, I met him randomly.."). Kyle took us to a lovely restaurant and showed us a bit of Vancouver's nightlife. We were in Vancouver for a couple of days, just getting to now the city (which we both really liked) and spent a day in the amazing Stanly Park .
After Vancouver we went back to Seattle for a day and did a nice trip to Banbridge island on the ferry boat. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see McDreamy while in Seattle, but other than that, the city exceeded my expectations.
On Saturday we got our car, a lovely silver Nissan (that's how much I know about cars..) and headed south. We first drove to Portland and there was this wine&food festival, which suited us perfect. Spent the evening there and after that we've been driving down the Pacific Highway, which goes right by the sea and the scenery is awesome. We've been stopping on the way and spent a few hours in the Redwood National Park, that's famous for the tallest trees in the world (some of the trees are 2000 years old!)Now we're in a small town called Mendocino and trying to get to Yosemite by night. Tomorrow we'll go and explore the natural park, so wish us luck that we don't bump into any mountain lions or black bears...
