Annie and Dave's World Tour
We woke to find our carriage had broken its axle (or somesuch) and had to shuffle our stuff together before moving to another part of the train. Arrival in Butterworth was about 2 hours late but we still had about 6 hours to kill before the connecting train to Kuala Lumpar left. Penang Island was a short ferry ride away and so we decided to head there for the rest of the day. The capital, Georgetown, was a very pleasant mix of colonial style buildings and different cultures, as it had a rich past as a trading post. We picked up a heritage trail [http://www.pht.org.my/] and pottered around picking up snacks.
Back at the station we were greeted with the cheery news that our overnight train was 2 hrs late. By the time we boarded at 0225 we were 5 hours late. Once again, the power of WWE helped to deaden the pain, as The Animal (Batista) and John Cena saw off the tag challenge of Booker T and The Big Show, though this was largely due to The Big Show abandoning his tag team partner at a crucial moment. How could you, Big Show? How coudl the 6' 7", 500 pound giant leave his partner to be picked apart, like a carcass dissected by vultures? We will be tuning in again (at this rate, the next time we are at a railway station) to seek an explanation.
As a treat / surprise, we had been booked in 1st clas in our very late train, so we had the space to oursleves. After taming the A/C and providing A-M with a warm hat, sleep sheet and jumper, we settled into our bunks.
