Hola everyone!!
I finally made it to Ecuador! My flight from London was delayed becuase the cabin crew for my Iberia flight were over an hour late, consequently I missed my connection in Madrid and had to stay overnight.
I had to wait for four and a half hours at the airport for them to track down my bag and then finally the airline arranged a hotel and food etc. My new friend (from Northern Ireland, I swear they follow me around!) shared the entire ordeal with me which made it a bit more bearable.
I flew from Madrid on Tuesday and arrived in Quito at about 4:15pm their time (10:15pm your time). Quito is absolutely massive! It´s surrounded by volcanoes apart from in the east where it is constrained by the Valle de los Chillos. I managed to grab a taxi and find the office of the volunteer organisation I have been in contact with. They were waiting to meet me, I´ve never met people so excited to meet someone who spoke English! I actually understood a lot of what they were saying which was totally unexpected!
From the office they showed me to the apartment that I will be sharing with two other girls that work for the volunteer organisation.
Today I have been sorting out my Spanish lessons and arranging the work I will be doing in the Amazon. I have decided to work with two very different communities, one in the north approximately 200km from the border with Columbia (but not dangerous), and the other in the south east along the border with Peru. I leave for the first community on 3rd November and will spend two weeks with each. I´ll make it back in time for some massive parties on 1st December in Quito yay!
I´ll keep you posted with some of my site seeing in Quito, there´ll be photo´s next time I promise!
