We have arrived in Sydney!
We began our journey at 9:20am on a coach journey with Greyhound from the Sunshine coast to Brisbane airport. We reached the the airport at 11:30am and our flight wasn't till 1pm so we made it in plenty of time.
Typical heh! lol Our flight was delayed by about 20 mins! What an awful flight too! I hate flying as it is, this one was short, but we had turbulence and that made me more nervous! Poor Ian was sitting there all relaxed and I was constantly freaking out everytime the plane moved slightly.
Anyway, we landed safely after about an hour :) I was glad to be on the ground again.
It was raining and we were obviously unprepared, as we were still wearing shorts and t-shirts because of the hot weather we were having the morning we left the Sunshine Coast.
We bought a train ticket each and had 20 mins wait for the train to Kings Cross station. The hotel closed for checkin at 6:30pm and it was already 5:30pm! So I called the hotel to let them know we were in Sydney, but had been delayed slightly because of our flight. They were not happy we getting the train! Apparently it delays you by 15 mins and they suggested we catch a taxi instead! Aughhh! lol We were hardly going to waste our money, so we got on the train anyway!
We had made it to Kings Cross with just under 30mins to spare to find the hotel, but we didn't have a clue where we were going! Just outside the station it was pouring down with rain, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask a worker standing close by. I showed him a small map we had found inside a leaflet, he appeared pretty certain where it was and we follwed his directions, but it seemed all wrong! Ian took a look at the map again and it turned out we were going in the opposite direction! So rather than going back on ourselves, we thought we would try a street we had found down a steep flight of steps. Just imagine carrying two bags weighing 24kg each plus hand luggage! It wasn't an easy option! Ian helped carry them down most of the way.
It seemed it would have been better for one of us to just simply walk down the steps without the bags and check if it was accessible from there to the street we needed. It was a dead end! It was still raining, our bags and clothes were getting wet and dirty and we were getting fed up. A young lad was walking down the steps, so I asked him where this street was and believe it or not, he gave us the same directions as the other guy! The only way back was up the steps! Oh god!
Finally back at the top, we walked the directions provided, dragging our bags across the wet ground, and after about 10-15mins it turned out to be the wrong street again! They were sending us to a street of a similar name!
Right then, taxi time!!!!!!!!! We flagged down a taxi, put out luggage in the boot and got in with about 5-10mins spare! Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, the driver didn't know where the road was! or the hotel! He even passed a map to Ian to look at! I couldn't believe it! He seemed to be trying to confuse Ian, by repeatdly asking what page the road was on! Then finally he found the hotel without it, Just in time too!
The fare was around $9 so we quickly paid him $10 and ran to the hotel doors leaving the lucky man with a tip!
It turned out, you ask the taxi driver before hand how much it will cost and you never tip!!!! lol The hotel was also just on the right at the bottom of the steep steps too!!! But, the hotel was nice :) Which kind of made up for our bad start in Sydney.
However we seemed to hit another bit of bad luck when we made our way to our next accommodation in Sydney a few days later. We caught the wrong bus once and the next bus we were on had a crash! luckly nobody was injured, just a badly damaged taxi door! lol
