When they finally allowed me to get into my bunk on the night train, I clambered up, wedged my bag safely behind my legs, drew my curtain and settled down for a bed time read with some Carla Bruni. In a matter of minutes I was fast asleep, still very much recovering from the last few sleepless nights. The train staff had been hassling me …
Hello!
I'm setting off on my travels and aware some people are a bit concerned I'll vanish off the radar for 8 months! so I'm hoping to use this to update you with my progress.... The plan is Australia-Fiji-NZ-Australia-Borneo-Singapore-then somehow get myself from there to Beijing for the beginning of July 09. Updates may be sporadic (particularly during the two months in the jungle in Borneo) but will try and log on as often as I can!

As usual, determined not to spend long on my own, I met a girl - Marianne - at Hanoi airport to chat too. It turned out, I was much more experienced at travelling than her, as she had been st…
Gerry was really short of time in Hanoi, so we decided to go straight to Halong bay from the night bus, which worked perfectly. We were dropped off at Sinh Cafe, booked the trip - to leave in…
Hue was supposed to be a quick and not very exciting stop, enforced upon us by the bus company we were travelling with, but we actually had loads of fun! The bus from Hoi An was only about 4 …
Even arriving at 6am Hoi An was hot. It got hotter as we decided to ignore all motorbikes offering us lifts and walk into town - it didn't look that far! After huffing and puffing our way th…

Hi again Anna - this is a message for when you are somewhere bloggable - will be great to be back in contact - hope all is well - this is just a little message to say we are thinking about you loads and the pic of you + koala is gracing our fridge (and I have to keep showing people where PNG is on Oscar's globe)!
Snow went ages ago, sunny now!

Kath
Not sure when you'll see this again Anna, but wanted to say that I think your blogging is fantastic - I keep a)laughing out loud and b)feeling exceedingly jealous! Love the nature stories, felt v worried about you nearly dying at the top of a mountain by yourself, and I want to do jetboating and canyoning too! Hope PNG was good, look forward to catching up soon. We are still deep in snow, more on the way...xxxxxxx
Me
I pretty much have since then - except for sand boarding today!I thought it was better not to tell you about the skydive! need to do more research of the geography of PNG! x

AANNNAAAaaa!!! I am so glad you didn't tell us till after you had done that jump! It looked very exciting and scarey. It does'nt seem to be the only frightening thing you've done! Canyoning and glacier walking?? Can't you keep your feet on the ground?? Keep safe, are there mountains in PNG? Love and God Bless, Mum xxx
Dad
Your albatross trip was better than ours - we only saw baby ones. We didn't see any penguins. We had the same scary drive along the edge of Otago harbour. What a lovely place, though, when you're not too terrified to look!
Katherine we enjoyed ourselves very much last weekend. Count us in for babysitting any time!
love to all,
Dad
Kath
well done Mum, hurrah! I think I've successfully posted a load of photos via Picasa to everyone too, so our technological skills are moving on apace!
Lovely to see M&D, and to speak to you Anna, and Peter, and to speak to Ruth in the eve. Claire - I'll ring you soon, but hope your bathroom job has started well!
Love to everyone.

Hi Anna - just checking in again - hope all is well and that you have met up with Arwa successfully. We put our tree up today - Harriet did a 'you've been framed' slip off the sofa into the tree while trying to attach an angel, and got 'prickled' but is fine again now! We are counting down the days to term-end (only 4.5 to go) - all of us exhausted and looking forward to some time off. Hope you are having lots of fun!! Kathxxx

Hello again - keep 'em coming! Good to hear more. You sound Australian already! Can't wait to hear about the cattle station. Did you meet any cowboys/girls? News here: Lee made Oscar some Fantastic Mr Fox ears and tail, and Harriet some Lady (and the Tramp) ears and tail for a dressing up day at school. They looked great. I think I have now formally handed over all creative pursuits to their father!! Looking forward to more news (and pictures). Lots of love. Kathxx
