Just about to leave Singapore having had a fantastic few days, so thought we would tell you what we got up to!
We arrived on Thursday 4th April, absolutely EXHAUSTED from the fourteen hour plane journey and found Karen (a family friend) who we were fortunate enough to stay with. The rest of the afternoon was a bit of a write-off but the next day we headed off to the Asian Civilisations museum where we learnt about how singapore has only been developed recently and saw Buddhas from all around Asia. In a couple of hours we had been through Singapore, Thailand, Borneo, Cambodia, China, India and western Asia without even leaving the museum! That night we went to Singapore's famous Night Safari, where we saw animals such as elephants, tigers and many more. On our way out we stopped to get a "fish pedicure" which consisted of a school of small fish nibbling on our feet.. a bizarre and highly ticklish experience.
On Saturday, we went to Sentosa island to have a go at the Luge - a chairlift to the top with an amazing view of the city, then a go kart/luge ride down. Hilarious! We were then drenched by a a random tropical storm and sought refuge in a nearby cafe. That evening we went with Karen and Tabby to The Marina Sands Hotel - a boat-shaped architectural marvel (google Image it!) which has an infinity pool and a bar called Kudeta on the roof. We had amazing views whilst sipping on yummy cocktails. Very refined! After Kudeta, we went for our "last supper" with the family before heading home for a well needed sleep.
In the morning we hired bicycles and went for a bike ride down the east coast - a great way to see the city. To cool down we had a quick dip in the pool before heading off to get our feet 'travel-ready' at a Vietnamese nail bar in Far East plaza. That evening we said our goodbyes to The Millars and stayed our first night at the Royal Hostel in central Chinatown. The street was buzzing with people and we had our dinner at a delicious street stall. For our last night, we headed over to Clarke Quay and had a watermelon mojito at a riverside bar - the city lights at night were spectacular. We flagged down a taxi for the first time since we have been here (SUCCESS) and had an interesting chat with the driver about his family and what life is like in Singapore.
Today we explored China Town in greater depth enjoying the unique atmosphere of the bustling streets and market stalls. We found a beautiful Hindu Temple which we were lucky enough to arrive at during prayers. Traditional Indian music was playing and it was incredible to see. It's been quite a relaxing start and now we are looking forward to more adventures as we travel to Malaysia tonight. Can't wait to see what the next few months bring!
Lots of love
