Hello!
I have been a little bit slack on the blog and Portia even threatened to change the name to Portia's escape - mean, I know!
So she's off to the pub whilst I type away - it's a hard life!
On the plus side, I did manage to put on a few photos, but only a few sorry as it takes so long.
I'm actually in Laos now, but I thought I'd best go back a few days to catch up!
Kanchanaburi - is where the bridge over the river quai is and is a fantastic place to visit. Well, despite being hot, sweaty after a long train journey and lack of sleep due to dripping air con and fleas in our room in bangkok! - and then the train guard stopped the train for us when we should have stayed on.. that might have been my fault a little bit, but apart from that we were good. Me and Kerry also found ourselves a bit orange from the train seats - I think it was probabally the suncream, we both laughed at Kerry's comment about me having a tan for a change - when she's nearly as white as me :)
After lunch we headed to the Jolly Frog, after a nice reccommendation and Portia booked tickets so we could go to the Tiger temple in the afternoon.
I felt really mixed about the tiger Temple when we got there. It was a fantastic experience, but it seemed a bit wierd at the same time. The tigers are on show for a couple of hours each day and we went and had our picture taken with them (we were guided round) and they were all very sleepy. But later, when they moved them back to the cages, that was when you could see that they were wild animals. The last one to walk back was one of the more relaxed tigers and we were allowed to walk with them. When we joined the crowd to que up, one of the guides yelled that the tiger was going to pee - and people moved out of the way (you don't walk in front of a tiger - def behind and pat them on the back to show you are a friend) apart from one girl who got hit in the chest - I felt really sorry for her.
Both me and Portia got a chance to walk with the Tiger and hold the rope - which was fantastic, and saw the enclosure they are slowly building for them. There was a very cute baby tiger there aswell and portia got a cool video of a not very happy tiger.
After that, they fed the other animals - and there was a strange moment when one of the boars(or pig or something) was not happy, and I didn't even notice as we went past - only portia telling me to walk calmly and quickly away. ..
It was a fantastic place.
That night we went to bed early, but I needed some bacardi to help the bugs seem smaller! So I sat myself down with my diary I was going to write but haven't really got very far. . and there was a HUGE cockroach next to me. I thought - I'm brave, I can cope.. until sometime dropped on my head and I freaked! So I went to join the friendly group sat drinking in the middle of the grass and felt alot better with company. Portia joined us all as she couldn't sleep and after some chatting and bacaardi - the bugs seems so much better!
We were going to stay longer, but as time is limited, we headed the next day on a bus leaving Kerry behind to stay there longer. In the morning we got up very early to see Death Valley (how could I nearly have forgotten about that). It was a long walk ,and it was very hot , but amazing to see the the horrible conditions and to hear about the history and well.. it would take far too long to describe it. when we get a chance we'll put up the photos.. and I won't even mention the bus back.
Now I'm off for a few drinks as I've been on this computer far too long! Where does time fly to!
Take care all Xx
