Yesterday was our last full day in Hong Kong. Richard and I decided to catch the tube from Jordan station to Tung Chung and take the cable car ride up to Ngong Ping where there is a massive Buddha statue.
On the five minute walk to Jordan tube station we dropped off our washing at a tiny little laundry shop. I know that might make us sound like executive travellers, but it was only about $34 (£3) and a little luxury we appreciate having spent our first year abroad hand washing in Greece and Bulgaria. Well actually I can't really claim any credit for hand washing as Richard did it all; I got blisters after my first turn.
Ngong Ping is a place the guide books describe as a village, but in reality it's more like part of an American style theme park with gift shop after gift shop.
We walked up the steps to the Buddha statue, and were both surprised to find it had a swastika on its chest. Richard knew the swastika was associated with Hinduism but not Buddhism. Apparently it's meant to symbolise good fortune.
Today we are packing and heading off to the airport. We'll catch the A21 bus just a few minutes walk from our hotel. It's a dead simple journey with the bus dropping us off right outside the airport. Much easier and cheaper than catching the tube there.
