Wednesday 23rd April - After a very boring 12 hour flight we arrived in Frankfurt Germany. Then 3 hours later we jumped on other plane to Zurich, waited 1.5 hours there and took off for another leg to Turkey. I had major jet lag and felt like i was floating in mid air for about 24 hours.
Once landed in Istanbul we hit a big problem. Our luggage both bags didn't come through onto the baggage claim belt. With our anzac tour waiting outside we found lost baggage & found out both bags were left at Zurich. What a feeling that was to hear that, but soon realised because they were only 2.5 hours away they would just fly them on the next flight and would have them by the morning before leaving for Gallipoli. That wouldn't be the case. Next flight wasn't until 5pm the next day - 24 hours later. The ladies at lost baggage didn't speak that great english so it was very annoying. I was getting on the grumpy side by this time because just flown 3 stops totalling 15 hours in air and about 6 hours waiting at airports. After 2 hours talking to the ladies we finally arranged for luggage to be tranferred to the hotel in Istanbul 5pm the next day. Our tour left 7am the next day on a 4.5 hour bus trip so this meant we were going to have to brave the 2 days camping under the stars without fresh clothes not the mention covered in shoes or sleeping bags. With a very drained and grumpy attitude minya convinced me this would make the experience a whole lot better, more exciting & challenging. At least we had our plastic instant money to push on by. When jumping on the transfer bus to hotel we both thought this would be a great converstion starter & we would need to be cheerful so people would lend us clothes (we were going to freeze our butts off in what we had on). The hotel was hectic, people going everyone and no-one knew what they were doing. The tour company knew our situation as Katia spoke to airport ladies over the phone to help us translate english, we meet then and they were going to lend us some clothes, Yeah right this never happened.
Things were going to get worse for us, Strike 1, the company was dodgy and had no idea what they were doing with nothing organized. There were 6 hotels booked out in this tour company so were had to move to another one, after waiting 1 hour we got the option to wait futher for the bus to pick us up or walk 10 mins down the road to hotel. The walk suited us as no bags to carry. 2nd Strike was leaving us a note at hotel from the tour guide saying couldn't make it and will meet us at 7am in morning. We meet an aussie guy who helped us out with 2 shirts. Around 8:30pm we got checked in & decided to hit the streets & do some shopping. (nothing closes until 10pm) Didn't find anything. I needed sleep bad.
