Gecko vs Cockroach
Today we went to Cua Dai Beach. We had read a lot about it being very busy and touristy on some parts but we didn't find that, maybe as our hotel took us to a quieter bit. Towards the end of the day we walked up the beach and it was deserted, as if we had the whole of it to ourselves. We got chatting to a couple from Vancouver who were staying in the same hotel, they splashed out on the honeymoon suit just for some luxury but the hotel staff keep on congratulating them. I'm pleased we didn't do the same!
It seems the way people try to sell you stuff here is to have a 15 minute conversation with you before they ask you to buy their stuff. It's doesn't really work but a good way to get talking to some more local people.
At lunch I had the water from a coconut, which was bigger than my head.
Dinner than night was at a vegetarian restaurant 'Minh Hien' that had some good reviews. As we walked in Tash noticed they were selling beer at 3000 Dong, which is £0.09. This surely must be the cheapest beer in the world? The food was outstanding, had so much flavour - it was like I had forgotten what food could taste like and had rediscovered it all over again. For starters we ordered Wontons, these came out as a circular discs covered in flavoursome veg, I can't even think how to describe how good this tasted and not anything like any other wonton I had seen or had before. I had Aubergine with some ground roasted peanut and soy sauce - sounds rubbish until you try it!
The entertainment that evening was provided by two geckos (they were almost translucent and blended in well with the white walls) cornering and try to catch a fairly big cockroach. It's hard to know if they were working as a team or just looking out for their own interests. After running away from the first Gecko it was stopped by the second, there was a standoff for around 3/4 minutes before the cockroach ran at the gecko before making a quick diversion around him.
