Cafe Trung
There have been two times in my life that I have consumed egg. Once today and the other in the exact same place back in 2011. My friend Darren laughed some 25 months ago at the cup of traditional egg coffee placed in front of me because it contained my favourite thing (coffee) and most hated (egg). Coming back to Hanoi I knew I would have to visit the same establishment, mainly because it's secret location is amazing and also it had to be something Tash tried whilst she was here. To reach the coffee house you have to find a walkway through to the back of a shop and take a winding staircase up 4 floors. You can easily miss it, infact I even had its location wrong even though I had been to it previously. Once you are there you look out to the lake and it's surroundings, looks great at night, the pictures don't really do it justice though. The coffee is the Vn equivalent of a cappuccino, the egg white whipped up, sweetened and put on top of the coffee.
To talk about coffee some more, I have been consuming a fair amount. The cups are small and it doesn't make me feel the same kind of rubbish-ness that I started to get from the coffee back home. The coffee here is Robusta, it's very bitter and that's why I think it's sweetened with condensed milk. I have purchased the traditional coffee filter (I have posted a picture of this previously) that cost me about 80 pence - I will bring it back home with me and sit on a street corner with my Gaggia and the filter as the start of my world coffee business.
The rest of the day was spent walking around the French quarter, this is the more expensive part of town, you see those Jimmy Choo type stores that you would get in any other city. You also see a lot of people in business dress and a few buildings that you could easily be looking at in Europe. It's also the best place to by a microwave or a fridge, just incase any of you plan to move to Hanoi.
