10th Dec: Arrived fairly late so not really enough time to explore so just had some noodles and an early night.
11th Dec: Got up early and headed to the War Museum, which was built on the former U.S Information Centre! Very interesting, but tragic. While I was there, some filming was being done - apparently for an Australian TV hosted by their Miss World. Then I headed to the Cu Chi Tunnels, where there are 200km of tunnels, which were used by the Vietnamese guerrillas in the fight against the Americans. I went throught them and even though they have been widened for tourists, it's a tight fit!! Then came a bit of fun - the shooting!! There is a range where you can choose your weapon, buy some bullets and shoot at targets! I went for an M16 and Clip shot gun and the main gun itself the M60, a huge machine gun! Anyway, after a good day, went off for an evening meal and tried rat and scorpion! The rat was a bit boney - a bit like chicken and the scorpion was very crispy but OK - better with a dip! There was 1 left, so I wrapped it up and kept it for later. Went to a bar with some good music and had few Saigon beers and bumped into the American girls again! Now I've been invited to Japan, where one of them works. Then back to my room and a good solid sleep.
12 Dec: Had a really chilled day. As I was running out of clean-ish clothes, I headed to the market and picked up some cheap T-shirts, as it's cheaper than having them cleaned! I also encouraged other people to buy silly stuff they didn't really want! Then I had a cyclo-tour of the city during rush hour - pretty frantic stuff, with lots of weaving in and out of traffic, but good fun. The driver was about 90 and was dying when it finished! Went on to the night market, which was so cheap - about 40p for a big plate of fried noodles and sea food. Then I had a wander around the night market. I was tempted to buy some trainers - they had Nike air max for about 12 pounds, but there was too much choice so I didn't bother!
13th Dec: Left Saigon and headed for the border. It was about 6 hours to Chau Doc, which is a river village on the border, getting there about 3-ish. Got a motorbike tour around, seeing life on the river and how all the houses are set out - they're either all on stilts or floating and they are all fishermen there. Tiny little place, but really nice after a busy city. Obviously had sea food on a floating restaurant, taking in my last sunset in Vietnam.
