Travelling to Tulcan
We had breakfast and immediately went out to collect the DVD drive. We arrived at about 10:20 to find the store closed and with no lights on. Eventually at about 11, and only a whole hour late the owner turned up. It turns out that he was unable to fix the drive, but this being the case he didn't charge us for the time he spent working on it. We then went to check out of the hostel and caught a bus to the northern bus terminal. We were on the bus about an hour before we realised that since we had reached the end of the line we must have missed our stop. It turns out that even though it says terminal on the front of the bus you are actually supposed to get off about half a mile away and walk the rest. So by the time we reached the bus station it was around 1 pm. This meant we didn't really have time to visit Otavalo with enough daylight to make it worth while, so we elected to take a bus straight to Tulcan and cross the border the next morning. Once again we arrived with perfect timing as the next bus left in 5 minutes, we just had enough time to pick up a packet of banana crisps before boarding. The bus journey took 5 hours and and as we travelled further north through Ecuador the scenery began to resemble the UK with rolling green hills and pasture everywhere. We arrived in Tulcan at 8 and immediately found ourselves a hostel for night. After getting ourselves settled in we went out to look for some dinner, we walked around looking at all the rather expensive chicken places until we eventually found somewhere that sold soup, main and a drink for $2. On the way back to the hostel we bought some awesomely coloured biscuits which we ate whilst playing games on the computer and watching 'big bang theory' on the TV before bed.
