Bogota.
We arrived in Bogota just before 11am to discover that Bogota suffers from English weather and went straight to the tourist information with Venette where the most helpful lady we have met so far in our travels provided us with maps, guides and direction to get to the Candelaria area where our hostel was all for free. We caught the free bus to the transmillenio (Bogota's public transport system) where we paid just over a dollar each for our tickets. The journey was mostly uneventful apart from the bus number the lady gave us was out by one so we had a little confusion when we tried to change bus. We finally arrived at the Aguas station and walked the 5 mins to where we thought the hostel was, it turned out however that it was not the correct address and after searching around the block Venette and I waited while Mae went to look for the hostel. We waited in the rain for about 10 mins until she came back and said she had found it. It turns out that there are two Av. 1 in Bogota and that we had gone to the wrong one. It took another 10 mins or so to walk the few blocks to the correct place helping Venette with her 4 bags!!!! where we got settled in and discovered that we would be sleeping in a triple bunk which is interesting. By now it was lunch time and the three of us went out for a coffee and also a couple of empanadas and a sweet pastry which was really nice. After lunch we spent a couple of hours looking round the area and found a cash machine as well as a supermarket. We returned to the hostel briefly to pay for the beds and then we left again to get some dinner, a large slice of pizza and a small drink for $1.80 each and also picked up a couple of large beers to drink. We spent the evening in the hostel drinking and chatting with the other guests, the idea originally was to have a couple of drinks and then go to a sort of street party which happens every Friday apparently, but by the time we actually went out the party was winding down so we all went to a couple of salsa clubs where we attempted to dance inside initially but discovered that there was much more space outside and it was cooler there as well. We danced with each other until about 2am when the group kind of slowly headed back to the hostel stopping several times along the way for more drink of course!! We arrived back at almost 3 and after waiting outside for someone to let us in for 10 mins quickly went to bed.
