Day 5 and we awake to another beautiful sunny day at Lake Garda, and another much needed day of rest and relaxation shared between the swimming pool and the pebbly shore of Lake Garda.
First off a trip to try local shop to get some lunch. This is always interesting as sometimes it's a case of guessing what we are buying given that none of us understand Italian other than basics such as Si (yes), Chow and Grazie (thank you).
Fortunately though many items either look like they do in the UK fresh fruit and rolls for example or they have pictures on the packaging to indicate what it is you (hope you) are buying.
So lunch bought and it's first stop swimming pool, where we claim our sun beds a la the Germans laying our towels out on them. The older girls have gone down to the lake again so it's just the three of us again, although Alex & Millie would soon be back citing it's too hot on the lake.
The pool is large and has a kids pool attached, there are strict rules such as no eating or drinking, but these are contradicted by the fact there is a smoking area! Very strange.
Anyway it is very clean and pool users are also expected to shower before setting foot in the pool, although I'm sure not many do.
After a couple of hours in the pool and bathing on the.sun beds (making our sun burn even more painful) today the temperature was in the low thirties, we had our previously bought lunch outside our caravan. The older girls had come back by this time, red as a lobster.
In the afternoon we made our way down to the panoramic shores of Lake Garda, it was quite busy down there this time with other guests from Sereno Camping village making the most of the warm lake water vas stunning views.
No jumping off the wooden pier this time but a few swims in the lake were had, the mid afternoon heat was scorching and in the end we all felt the need to take refuge in the shade so slowly made our way back to the caravan and chilled outside under the veranda for an hour or two which felt far more comfortable.
Having a 10 year old in tow, and one that absolutely loves the water meant it wasn't long before we heard the words " can we go to the pool? " The time was now around 4.30pm and we made the slow walk to the pool and for the first time there were no sunbeds available so we had to leave our towels by the edge of the pool, this was the busiest we had seen the pool.
Mads our 10 year old loves swimming and seems to enjoy being underwater especially. For the rest of us it was an opportunity to cool down, and have some fun into the bargain.
Dinner time was fast approaching and it was a case of déjà vue as we bought, prepared and eat pretty much the same meal as we'd cooked the previous evening.... Pasta meat, cheese vas sauce which was actually very nice. The temptation was to eat at the restaurant but with a day in Venice the following day and our 18 year olds birthday ( turning 19) we knew it would be an expensive day on Sunday so we did the sensible thing and cooked dinner ourselves.
Josie booked our taxi for early Sunday morning and we then chilled out for the rest of the evening outside the caravan.
Some way through the evening we heard musical and singing, which at first we thought was karaoke but on further inspection it turned out that there were 2 live singers on a make shift stage near to where the pool was.
At first this was quite enjoyable although most of the lyrics were being sung in Italian, there were a few songs though that we recognised such as My heart will go on by Celine Dion ands Sam Smith track which I am too old to know the name of but the kids recognised it.
We had decided that because Sunday would be an early start we would turn into bed early by which I mean around 10pm. However the entertainment was still going strong and it sounded like the singers were in our caravan it was that loud...and the quality of the songs were going down hill too., with the likes of Superman, YMCA and the song who's title escapes me but which has the lyric a little of Rita's what I need etc. and which was used in that hilarious scene from The Royle Family sitcom when Twiggy and Jim were doing the decorating.
The time was now 11.20pm and the music was not letting up. However I must have dropped off soon afterwards as this was the last time I looked at my watch. Tomorrow would bring another experience brand new for the 3 kids although Josie and I had visited 10 years ago for our anniversary...another unique and stunning location... Venice!
